The Czech psychoanalytic society (IPA) invites you to the 2nd Interdisciplinary Conference, which will be dedicated to the legacy of Otto Fenichel. Our conference will be a partial return to 1936, when the 14th Congress IPA – dedicated to the theme of effectiveness of psychoanalytical therapy (which had participation from 198 analysts from around the world) – took part in Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad). Here, Fenichel delivered the paper with which we would like to open the 2nd Conference. Since 1936, more then 80 years have passed, therefore it will be interesting to learn how the theme of psychic change is approached in current psychoanalysis. What are the criteria, concepts and limits of psychic change in different psychoanalytical movements and schools in the 21st century? How has the essence of the goals and therapeutical ambitions of psychoanalysis changed in the last half a century?
As a part of the legacy of Otto Fenichel for us is his interest in external political reality, the conference will also deal with the theme of psychic change from a perspective of medicine, history, sociology and political sciences. We want to pay attention to the phenomenon of an internal change, not only on an individual level, but also in context of institutions, human groups and society as a whole. It is a demanding theme and could be continued in another Fenichel’s Conference, which we aim to organize two years from now. The 2nd conference will also have a Czech section, which will come before the international one (held in the English language).
